D-DAY 80th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
On the 6th June the Parish Council celebrated the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings with a number of events across the whole day. The day started with Parish Councillors distributing commemorative coins to a number of residents who could remember the actual day. Focus then turned to the Fremantle Care Home where the staff and residents were treated to some entertainment in the form of line dancing and a performance from the Village Choir. Afterwards refreshments were served by the staff who had dressed up in outfits from the 1940s. The event was open to the public and both the Parish Council and the Care Home would like to thank all the residents from the village who supported this event.

As the Fremantle Care Home was drawing to a close, the Village School choir performed a number of songs outside The Bull public house. They then received commemorative coins from the Mayor of Aylesbury, Alan Sherwell. There was then a short break before the evening entertainment started.

The evening was kicked off by local resident Mike Carroll who performed his Frank Sinatra set to the delight of his followers. Cllr Carol Jenkins then interviewed a couple of residents to get their stories from that day. There then followed another performance from the Village Choir, with some audience participation along the way. All through out the evening fish and chips were available in the pub car park, which were so popular that they ran out of chips. Next on stage was local musician, Jamie Felton, who treated the audience to a medley of songs before the headline act of the evening took to the stage, The Polka Dots, a swing and jive trio, who entertained everyone with songs from the 1940s and 1950s.

Once the entertainment finished everyone made their way over to the Village Green for the lighting of the Lamp of Peace. Before the lighting, the Reverend Nick Moloney, the Town Mayor Alan Sherwell and Parish Council Chair Kirsty Shanahan performed some readings. Following the lighting of the lamp there was a minutes silence.
The Parish Council would like to thank Fremantle Care Home, The Bull, the Village Choir, Stoke Mandeville School and all the residents who supported the day.
